Liberal Masons: History, Philosophy, Practice, and Perspectives of the adogmatic Freemasonry – Vladimir Markovic

The main goal of liberal freemasonry is the improvement of man (and woman) as an autonomous and social creature capable of living a morally correct and constructive life. Liberal Freemasons believe that fulfillment and happiness on a personal, individual level can only be achieved in a democratic and just society built on solid humanistic foundations. On the other hand, a healthy society can only be built with the proactive participation of citizens capable of expressing their views and needs responsibly. From the perspective of liberal Freemasonry, there is little difference between working for personal enlightenment and improvement, and purposeful action towards understanding and solving the current social problems around us. Freemasonry is explicitly linked to the pursuit of this dual goal: the improvement of both man/woman and society, not just pure introspection with the use of symbols and rituals.

Vladimir Marković has been a freemason for almost twenty years. A member of masonic organizations in Serbia and internationally, a holder of the highest degrees both of the Scottish Rite and of the York Rite, he spent a number of years in leadership positions in Serbian Freemasonry. He particularly excelled in connecting Serbian Freemasons with their Brothers and Sisters around the world and with introducing higher Masonic degrees in Serbian Freemasonry such as the Royal Arch, the Cryptic Masons, and the Knights Templar. He was also the initiator of the construction of the first Masonic Temple in Serbia after the Second World War, as well as the founder of the first specialized Masonic library in Western Balkans. He is the founding Grand Master of the first adogmatic liberal masonic obedience in Serbia – Liberal Grand Lodge of Serbia.
